MAY HAROUSH
MANY OF
Final Project 2024
My research began by asking questions such as: What is the relationship between the one and the many? What happens when you duplicate something? How does the ‘many’ affect the ‘one’?
The solitaire ring is one of the most sold jewelry items in the world, mass-produced and copied. It's a very used symbol for engagement, Wealth, Status, and more. The solitaire ring represents a connection between two people. It marks a special ceremony that is unique yet also common and repeated.
I decided to examine the solitaire ring closely, focusing on its shape, meaning, and function. I divided it into three parts: the band, the stone, and the setting.
The band stands for the endless connection between the couple and the dependency between the ring, the wearer, and their surroundings.
The setting links the metal to the stone, creating a dependency between them. The settings I designed are based on the dependency between the metal and the stone and among the different parts of the jewelry.
The stone represents wealth and is the main feature of a solitaire ring. I wanted to explore the stone's importance and its placement, making it not just a single, central piece but sometimes a connector with a functional object.
